Original light fixtures from Casa Loma found in St. Catharines

Monday, August 18, 2008 - NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE - Leon Perel, antique expert to his surprise was shown seven original light fixtures made for Casa Loma. They were stored in a "self-storage unit" in St. Catharines.

"These light fixtures are just a wonderful treasure", said Perel, owner of Forum Galleries, "The details in the fixtures are remarkable. One pair has a set of three dragons perched along the top rim and another is a pair of remarkable coach house lights. We are working with Casa Loma to establish their provenance, but we are confident that they are 100% genuine."

These wrought iron light fixtures are believed to have been bought during the great Casa Loma auction in 1923. Sir Henry Pellatt was forced to auction off almost everything in his castle to cover property tax debts. This auction took place over five days and was the largest that Toronto had seen at the time. These fixtures will once again be sold at auction. The fixtures will be on display at Forum Galleries, online at www.forumgalleries.com and will be sold during the "Prestige Auction" in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Sunday September 7th.
